Sedation Dentistry

It is not rare for people to go years without seeing a dentist. Dental anxiety and fear of pain keep thousands of people from getting the dental care they need. Unfortunately, this usually makes the situation worse as problems that might have been caught early are allowed to deteriorate into much more serious issues, requiring much more extensive repair. Sedation dentistry offers our Charlotte, North Carolina guests a way to maintain their dental health, as well as enhance the appearance of their smiles, without fear or discomfort.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation dentistry at our Charlotte, North Carolina, practice involves the guest taking a pill prior to the dental appointment. The safest and most common variety of sedation dentistry, oral sedation reduces anxiety and worry without significantly altering the consciousness of the person taking it. The guest will be relaxed and calm, but will still be completely awake and able to answer questions and respond to commands during the procedure. As the oral sedation can take some time to wear off, however, it is important to have someone available to drive the guest home following the office visit. If you are interested in sedation dentistry during your visit to Charlotte Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, simply ask about it during your consultation.

Laser Dentistry

Mary_-_laser_CCCD_2010.jpgThe number of applications for lasers in dentistry is astounding. We use the BIOLASE Waterlase® MD Turbo, one of the most advanced laser dentistry systems, at Charlotte Center for Cosmetic Dentistry for many procedures that would otherwise require drills or blades. These procedures can now be done faster, more accurately, and more comfortably with laser dentistry. Because there is usually little or no pain involved in laser dentistry procedures, guests can avoid the irritating numbness of local anesthetic and still enjoy a pain-free dental experience. Soft-tissue Procedures

In dentistry, soft-tissue procedures are those that primarily involve the gums. Laser dentistry can be applied to a wide variety of soft-tissue cosmetic dentistry treatments, such as tissue sculpting. Due to the way the laser acts on the tissue, there is no pain or bleeding during the procedure, and healing is much more rapid than it is with traditional techniques.

Hard-tissue Procedures

Dental procedures that involve the teeth and bones are referred to as hard-tissue procedures. Laser dentistry applications in hard-tissue procedures include etching or roughening of a tooth’s surface (as in preparation for porcelain veneers), reshaping of malformed teeth, bone sculpting, and removal of old porcelain restorations. Without the use of a drill, these procedures are fast and painless. This allows the dentist to accomplish more in a single visit and the guest to get better results faster and with less discomfort.

Digital Radiography

digital_radiography image of tooth and laptopDigital radiography, or computerized X-rays, is part of the high-tech services that we provide to our patients by utilizing the DEXIS® Digital X-ray system. Digital X-rays use less radiation than traditional film. Instead of a piece of film, the system’s sensor is placed in the mouth to capture an X-ray. The DEXIS® system uses a sensor with rounded corners and a smooth casing that makes the process of taking X-rays more comfortable for patients and more efficient for our staff. Another benefit is time savings. There’s no waiting—as soon as the X-ray is taken, it appears immediately on the computer monitor. And because of the enhancements in the digital X-ray software program, we are better able to diagnose and treat conditions. Since the images can be enlarged, patients are able to clearly visualize and understand the diagnosis and proposed treatment plan. We are pleased to offer digital X-rays and other technologies so that our patients gain a positive dental experience.
